Arizona Legislature Sine Die

The 56th Legislative Session 2nd Regular Session concluded after 160 days on June 15th after passing the state’s budget. After many weeks of negotiations, the Governor’s office and legislative leadership crafted a budget that cut across nearly all state spending, with massive clawbacks to capital projects and rural infrastructure. The budget garnered bipartisan support and consternation, with many on the prevailing side citing that as a sign of success in addressing a nearly $1.7 billion shortfall. Overall, this legislature worked to get 258 bills signed to date while still sending 73 bills to be vetoed by Governor Hobbs and sent many more than normal to the ballot in an attempt to circumvent the veto. We are looking forward to providing an analysis and summary of those ballot measures in the coming months.
