Taipei Taiwan Mayor Ko and Councilmembers Visit Phoenix
Taipei Mayor Wen-Ji Ko and Councilmembers Kho and Wang along with a delegation of business leaders, staff and press visited Phoenix March 13 and 14. Taipei has been a Phoenix Sister City for 35 years and has shared business, education, arts and cultural ideas and programs to encourage strong international economic and cultural ties between the cities. Molera Alvarez V.P. Claude Mattox and his wife Sherri had the honor of hosting the delegation for a reception and dinner where Vice Mayor Kate Gallego, Taipei Committee Chairperson Lin Ling Lee welcomed the delegation to Phoenix. Evening entertainment included a cultural demonstration by five-time World Champion Hoop Dancer Brian Hammill and his Drummer/Chanter Palmer Lomakema. During their visit the delegation enjoyed a Valley Metro Light Rail tour of Phoenix and tried out the Phoenix GRID bikes, appreciating Phoenix’ multi-modal transportation options. Their visit also included a tour and meeting at the University of Arizona Medical School Phoenix campus.
