Economic Impact of Downtown Phoenix UA Campus Hits $961 Million

The economic impact of the University of Arizona’s downtown Phoenix academic medical center in 2013 was $961 million, according to a report released by Tripp Umbach. The report, commissioned by the city and the medical school, outlines the impact of the health science colleges and the surrounding academic campus which includes education, research and clinical facilities over a designated 28-acre area. Some of the findings include the economic impact of the overall biomedical campus in downtown Phoenix in 2013 was nearly $1.3 billion, of which $961 million is attributed to the UA College of Medicine – Phoenix presence; the academic medical center accounted for 9,355 direct and indirect jobs and generated more than $56.5 million in state and local government revenues.
