USMCA Forum Spotlights Cross-Border Collaboration

Molera Alvarez and RDA Law Firm, in collaboration with the Arizona Trade Coalition, proudly hosted the second installment of the three-part USMCA Forum series on Wednesday, June 11, at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown. The event brought together a dynamic mix of industry experts, key stakeholders, and elected officials from Arizona and Sonora, fostering a thought-provoking dialogue on the vital role of trade in Arizona’s economy and its deep ties with Mexico and Canada.

The forum highlighted the importance of cross-border collaboration under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), demonstrating how regional partnerships continue to drive innovation, growth, and opportunities across North America.

The program was full of informative and interesting presentations. Speakers included Christine Mackay, Director of Phoenix’s Office of Community and Economic Development, who outlined the city’s economic outlook, and Roberto Gradillas, Sonora’s Secretary of Economy and Tourism, who highlighted cross-border growth in the Arizona–Sonora Megaregion.  Followed by George Hammond, Director of the University of Arizona’s Eller Economic and Business Research Center, shared analysis on how tariffs are affecting Arizona’s economy.

A panel on current trade policy, moderated by Jaime Molera of Molera Alvarez, featured Sean Noble, President of American Encore, and Roy Herrera, Founding Partner at Herrera Arellano LLP. Additionally, Tucson Mayor Regina Romero, introduced by Greater Phoenix Leadership President and CEO Neil Giuliano, emphasized the importance of regional collaboration.

The program closed with a discussion on the impact of trade wars on Arizona, led by Carol Colombo, Chair of the Arizona Export District Council. Panelists included Rep. Tony Rivero, Chair of the Arizona House International Trade Committee; Jonas Gamso of Thunderbird School of Global Management; and Carolynne Hunter, President of St. Clair Technologies.

Stay tuned for the third and final installment of the USMCA Forum series this Fall, as we continue these essential conversations on regional trade and economic cooperation.
