Molera Alvarez Legislative Update: First Bill Passed and Vetoed
So far in Arizona’s 57th Legislature, 1st regular session, 1,678 bills have been introduced, and last week marked a major milestone—the first bill to pass both chambers and reach the Governor’s desk. However, HB2703 – Early Voting; Tabulation; Ballot Deadlines not only claimed the distinction of being the first bill passed but also became the first bill vetoed. The Governor cited concerns that the legislation could disenfranchise voters.
This week is Crossover Week, a crucial period when bills must receive their final floor votes in their chamber of origin before moving to the other side of the legislature, committee hearings are paused, except for special Rules and Appropriations hearings. Expect numerous Caucus and Floor Calendars, which will be released daily instead of weekly.
