Phoenix Sky Harbor Hosts 2024 Phoenix Aviation Academy
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is hosting its 2024 Phoenix Aviation Academy which runs from September through October. A diverse group of 20 business and community leaders are participating in the eight-week Academy meeting once each week for two hours. The attendees are getting a first-hand look at what it takes to run a major international airport and tour different areas of the airport from Customs and Border Protection, Phoenix PD K-9 bomb and drug detection, Phoenix Fire Station #19 , the AZ Air National Guard 161st Refueling Wingand the massive baggage handling system. The academy also highlights the great passenger assistance programs with the Phoenix Sky Harbor Navigators, the Compassion Cacti Lanyard, the Wings for Autism and the Dementia Friendly Air Travel workshops . Molera Alvarez VP Claude Mattox is attending this year and he says, “this certainly shows why Phoenix Sky Harbor is the World’s Friendliest Airport. It’s amazing the coordination between multiple partners to safely serve 1200 hundred daily flights and 130K+ daily passengers. This is a great experience.”
