Successful City of Phoenix Trade Mission to the Greater Guadalajara Region

On July 6-9, 2016, City of Phoenix Councilmembers Laura Pastor and Daniel Valenzuela led a trade, tourism and protocol mission to the Greater Guadalajara Region that brought together an impressive delegation of public and private sector leaders. Mission goals focused on establishing connections among leaders of the Phoenix and Greater Guadalajara business, entrepreneurial, tourism, education, arts/culture, and government ecosystems and were greatly advanced through the opportunities provided for delegates. The group participated in a series of interactive events that showcased the vast prospects the region has to offer.

MOUHighlights of the mission included visits to our counterparts and colleagues at Reto Zapopan, ITESO University and Centro de Software to see firsthand how innovation and entrepreneurship is igniting in this competitive regional ecosystem. Some lessons learned; interaction with FEMAC, one of the region’s leading women business organizations; the signing of an MOU between CALA Alliance and PAOS Residencias – Museo Taller José Clemente Orozco which will provide artistic exchanges between Phoenix and Guadalajara; and a tour of an Arizona business, Tiempo Development, who is mastering the regional business model with operations in the U.S. (Arizona) as well as in Mexico (Guadalajara, Hermosillo, Monterrey).
