Councilwoman Thelda Williams Selected as Interim Mayor of Phoenix
On Monday June 11, 2018, the Phoenix City Council unanimously voted for District 1 Councilwoman Thelda Williams as Mayor Pro Tem. Councilman Jim Waring was selected as Vice Mayor, who also represents District 2. Former Mayor Greg Stanton resigned his position in May to run for Congress. Williams will serve as Mayor until the November special election. If that election does not yield a clear winner, Williams will continue as Mayor Pro Tem until a spring 2019 special runoff election. Mayor Williams will continue to represent her council district during this time. This is her third time as Interim Mayor, having served in 1994 and again in 2012.
