City of Phoenix Director Receives APWA Top 10 Leadership Award
City of Phoenix Director of Public Works John Trujillo received the prestigious 2015 Top Ten Public Works Leaders Of The Year Award from the American Public Works Association, recognizing the top ten leaders nationally for exemplary public works performance. John has over 25 years in the public works field working his way up to Public Works Director. Following are a few of John’s leadership accomplishments:
*Conversion of Phoenix solid waste fleet to CNG fuels;
*Phoenix Solid Waste managed competition process, requiring Phoenix employees to bid against private haulers for city waste hauling contracts;
*Phoenix same day pick up, saving the city millions;
*Green organic curbside pickup program;
*Reimagine Phoenix program to achieve 40% recycling diversion; encouraged looking at the solid waste stream as an asset to be repurposed as opposed to landfill.
As a Phoenix City Councilman, Molera Alvarez V.P. Claude Mattox worked closely with John as Chairman of various council subcommittees dealing with solid waste, public works and sustainability. “John has earned this recognition by making Phoenix a leader in their environmental sustainability efforts,” said Mattox.
