MA Client GuardTop has been working with the City of Phoenix Street Transportation Department and the Office of Sustainability for the last year on a cool pavement project to address heat island effect in neighborhoods. ASU’s Global Institute of Sustainability and Innovation, Healthy Urban Environments, and the Urban Climate Research Center partnered with Phoenix to study the effectiveness of the GuardTop CoolSeal product. The year long study revealed that reflective pavement surface temperatures are considerably lower than traditional roadway pavement due to the cooler pavement coating. Additionally, this product can be used for parking lots for commercial properties. “The effects of Urban Heat Islands can be felt by everyone and greatly impact our ecosystem and day to day life,” said GuardTop Sustainability Project Manager Davis Koleas. “Phoenix and ASU both invested time and money into effectively working to reduce the harm that has already been caused.
