Phoenix Proposes Major Water Infrastructure Capital Improvement Program

Molera Alvarez and the Arizona Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America hosted a breakfast forum to discuss the City of Phoenix’s proposed capital improvement program (CIP). Phoenix’s Water Services Department has been proactive and innovative in addressing water supply needs, conservation, and drought contingency planning. However, many aging pipes in the city need replacement in order to avoid failure. Additionally, to proactively address potential shortage on the Colorado River, Phoenix plans to install recovery wells to withdraw stored ground water. Implementation will take several years and be very costly – a six percent rate increase for the next two years is proposed – but it will ensure the city has plenty of water to meet the needs of its communities and businesses and ensure future economic stability.
