Hermosillo Trade Office Opens, Attracts Investment in Phoenix
Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton and Councilman Michael Nowakowski led a delegation of Phoenix public and private sector leaders on a successful mission to the City of Hermosillo, Sonora, March 28 to 30, 2017, to officially open the City’s Northern Mexico Trade and Investment Office. Hermosillo Mayor Manuel Ignacio Acosta (“Maloro”), U.S. Consul General Karen Ogle, and Sonora business and government leaders joined the Phoenix delegation in celebrating the establishment of the City’s second trade office in Mexico. The Hermosillo office is already generating new trade and investment; it was announced during the opening that Hermosillo-based Etiquetas e Impresiones de Mexico, a custom printing and packaging company, is establishing operations in Phoenix.
The delegation advanced a strong economic agenda that included the signing of an MOU among the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Glenn Hamer), the Arizona Technology Council (Steve Zylstra), the Black Chamber of Arizona (Robin Reed), and the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce (Todd Sanders), with their counterparts at the leading business organizations of Sonora. The delegates visited multiple businesses using U.S. inputs to manufacture products in Hermosillo, gaining a stronger awareness of the importance of NAFTA and the connectedness of our supply chains. Mayor Stanton also opened the prestigious COPARMEX Business Summit with a panel on the importance of trade and the U.S.-Mexico relationship. City of Phoenix Economic Development Director Christine Mackay led the panel discussion with Glenn Hamer, Todd Sanders, and Steve Zylstra. Additionally, Phoenix-based non-profit 1Misson, joined by Mayor Stanton and Mayor Acosta, placed the first stone at an affordable housing project in the community of Miguel Aleman.
